Installation
- How do I install CREATE Together for Windows?
When you put the CREATE Together for Windows CD in the computer's disk drive, the installer will automatically start. Follow the instructions in the installer to install CREATE Together.
Error When Saving Sessions
- When I save my session instead of saving I get a Save As dialog. Even if it has already been saved.
This problem may occur for several reasons.
1. You may be clicking the Save Session As button instead of the Save button.
The Save button has a picture of a disk on it. The Save As button has a picture of a disk and a folder on it.
2. You may be saving to a location you have insufficient privileges to save to.
This can happen when you do not have delete privileges to the network or hard drive location you are saving to. You might be able to save the file initially, but not save it again because the existing one cannot be deleted. Check your user permissions for the location you session is saved to or ask for your network administrator's help. Make sure the permissions are set to Full Control.
3. A file in the session may be locked or read only.
This happens very rarely. A file added to the session may be locked or set to read only. Check this by opening the session folder in Windows and checking the security privileges for each of the files. If you find one that is read only, change it to Read and Write.
Distributing Fonts
- When other people play my sessions on their computer the fonts come out looking strange. How do I fix this?
The fonts CREATE Together uses must reside on the system the session is played on. If the font used is not found on the system, another font will be substituted.
The best solution for this problem is to use fonts in your session that are commonly found on Windows systems, such as Ariel and Times New Roman.
If you use an unusual or custom font, you must provide the font to the users of your session. Distribution licensing and agreements with the creator of the font may apply.
If you are allowed to distribute a font by the terms of the licensing agreement, you can give the font files to the people who will be playing your session. On a Windows system fonts are installed by double-clicking on the font file or by copying the font file into the Fonts folder.
Object Questions
- How do I access the properties of an object?
- What is an object and why is object orientation important?
In CREATE Together each type of object has specific properties. A Text object has options, attributes, and actions; a basic object has images, sounds, attributes, captions and actions; etc.
View what properties an object has in two ways:
1. Select the object and then select the Object menu. The items on the Object menu that are available represent the properties available for that object. Select any one of these properties to edit or view the settings.
2. Click on the object with the right mouse button. A context menu pops up next to the object displaying the objects properties. Click on any property in the list to edit or view the settings.
In CREATE Together an object is an entity within a session that is self contained and has properties. A session itself is an object that has certain properties, such as attributes and actions. The session contains these other objects:
Scenes
backgrounds (1 per scene)
basic objects
text objects
movie objects
line objects
edit boxes
list boxes
tree boxes
Each of these object have fundamentally different properties and perform different tasks. Each object operates independently from each other object. Objects can communicate with each other by sending messages.
The reason that object orientation is important is that it makes it easier to understand what is happening in a CT session. Each object operates based on its own properties. Each object can execute only its own actions and have the charateristics set only in its own properties. Once this concept is grasped it is much easier to learn to use different objects and make them do what you want them to do.
CT Plugin Issues
- I have installed the CT Plugin, but it does not work in Firefox.
The CT Netscape plugin works in Firefox, but the currently available installer does not install into the Firefox plugin folder. The CREATE Together, Player and Plugin installers will be modified to install into Firefox with version 1.1.51. Check the CREATE Together plugin download page in the Multimedia Innovation Center for a new plugin installer.
You can place the plugin into the Firefox plugin folder by copying the following files from the CREATE Together program folder to the Firefox Plugin Folder:
lyAnim.dll
lyAccion.dll
lyNucleo.dll
lyTextof.dll
NPlyPlug.dll
If you installed QuickTime after Firefox was installed, the QuickTime plugin will be already installed. If Firefox was installed after QuickTime was installed, reinstall QuickTime.
